Pledging to plant trees and recover ocean-bound plastic with specific products.

Atelier Murri

Giving back to the environment

Atelier Murri Inc is a company from Montreal, Quebec, founded by Selma & Lambert. The company has a big focus on sustainability, with limited production runs, and a focus on natural, upcycled and recycled materials. Now, with their Verdn partnership, this commitment to giving back goes even further.

On select products, Atelier Murri will recover either 160 bottles worth of ocean-bound plastic, or plant 10 mangrove trees.

The plastic cleanup takes place along polluted rivers and shorelines in both Africa and Asia. The work is carried out by Empower AS in collaboration with local partner organizations. The cleanup is facilitated and tracked by Verdn, which in turn allows Atelier Murri’s customers to see when and where plastic was collected on their behalf.

Similarly, the tree planting also happens in Africa. The NGO, Eden Reforestation Projects, plants mangrove trees in Madagascar, Mozambique, and Kenya. Mangroves are incredible trees capable of huge amounts of carbon sequestration. They are also special in that they grow in salt water, and are crucial for tropical coastal ecosystems.

All work, whether it’s collecting plastic or planting trees, is carried out by local workers, living in underprivileged communities. These workers are given a more stable income by restoring their local environments, which in turn creates better opportunities for the community as a whole.
